We have often seen that Google Android developers are working hard to implement the new features in the all new Android O and yesterday night new beta of Android O was out.     When it comes to finding the features of any new operating system then the first name comes is the XDA -Developers and they keep finding each and every feature, and this time in the new developer preview 2 the features are just amazing and you will love to hear more about it.

    Google has optimized its software a lot, and you can quickly run the new Android O in the phones having 512 MB RAM and 1 GB RAM. This is the optimization, and there are some more other features which we will dive into it and learn about it.

    Whats New In Android O Developer Preview 2

    Yesterday, when I was reading the features of the all new Android O, and I have seen that the new Android O is optimized a lot such as Boot time is also double. Suppose the speed of the Android N is 100% then it been increased to 219% in the all new Android O.
    Boot times matters a lot, and there are features of the Android O in which there are new notification badges and the newly redesigned settings are just amazing and the new quick settings.

    The name is not final yet of Android O, so you need to wait for more time till the name is final. There are no changes in the new boot animation yet. There are some new features in the all new pixel launcher, and we will be discussing more in this article so let’s dive into the features of the Android O.

    1. Redesigned Quick Settings

    As we have seen the Android O Developer Preview 1 that there has been a lot of changes which are done in the quick settings page and there is a new theme of the status bar, which is Grey Scale theme. Now in the quick settings, you will see Carriers Name, Battery information, Settings and many other changes are done in the Android O.
    There was no new significant change in the status bar since Android Lollipop, and now there are a lot of changes done in the Android O status bar.


    There are the new icons of the status bar, and there are amazing animations, and the battery percentage is now outside the battery icons instead of inside the battery icon. 

    2. Change Icon Shapes on Pixel Launcher

    We have seen that the Round icons were available in the Android N and just for Pixel devices. We have also shared the way you can port it if you have Android 7.1.x
    Now, in the new Pixel launcher, there are the settings in the Pixel launcher which will help you to change the icons. We have discussed this in the Android O Developer Preview 1 that new adaptive icons are coming soon in the new Android O. We have seen that there are new shapes of the icons such as Square icons, Rounded Corner Rectangle icons, Squircles, and Cylindrical icons.

    3. Widget Selection from Long-Pressing the Icon

    New Widgets selection is now available we have seen that in the Google Launcher and the Pixel Launcher when we press hold the home screen we see there is a widgets selection and now you can see the widget’s selection in the particular application.
    Whenever you will Long-Press the application, you will see the widget’s selection of that application. This is time-saving and fast, and you will love it.

    4. Notification Dots on the Home Screen

    Notification Dots are crazy and amazing whenever you will receive a new notification from any application such as Instagram you will get a notification in the app by long-pressing the application, and you will be able to look the notification from the application itself.
    You don’t need to look at the status bar again and again. You can see more about this feature by looking at the above image. In which there is a new mail which is shown by long press on the home page.

    5. Night Light Introduces Intensity Slider

    There was a new night light mode feature in the new Android N for Pixel and Pixel XL devices. Google removed it from the Nexus device. The new Night light mode is back again on all the Pixel and Pixel XL, and now it has the intensity slider you can select the color saturation according to your choice.


    Remember this feature is not available for Nexus 5x and Nexus 6P because the hardware is not supported. Let’s see what is coming new in this features in the coming developer preview.

    6. Autofill Service is now Available

    If you are using Android N then you might have seen some application which fills your email id and password automatically in some applications such as Twitter and it saves the time. This support is available for only some application. The Autofill service is now available for all the applications.
    You can fill the password automatically by going to Settings –> System –> Languages & Input then expand the “Advanced” section you will now see the Autofill service under “Input assistance.”. 


    You can select the autofill and add the application. We have seen currently it is supported for Google Play Services and it is in beta stage so we need to wait for some time.

    7. Enhanced Battery Management Options

    As we have discussed in the previous article that Android O will save a lot of battery. The apps such as Facebook, Messenger and Hangout takes a lot of memory and does a lot of battery consumption so the new enhanced battery management options are given in the Android O so if you don’t like the application then you can turn off the background activity of that application.


    There are new options given in the Android O in which it shows how long ago your last full charge was, your screen usage since the last charge, and app usage since the last charge. These are some useful diagnostic which is available in the new Android O.

    8. New WiFi Preferences Screen and Network Rating Provider

    There is a new WiFi Preferences Screen and Network Rating Provider in the all new Android O. In this we have seen that whenever you will be at home your WiFi will be turned on automatically. This feature was available in the Android o DP1. Apart from all these options, there will be a new option in which your device will automatically connect to the open network.
    The new option which is called as Network Rating Provider we don’t know yet what this option does exactly. We think there will be a rating of the network from Google. 


    If the rating will be high those Wi-Fi will be connected automatically. This rating will be in Google Database.

    9. New Developer Options

    Now, in the LineageOS we have seen that some of the developer options settings available in the quick settings and now it is official. You can toggle on “show layout bounds”, “profile GPU rendering”, “force RTL layout direction”, and “window animation scale.” Developers are excited about the profile GPU rendering tile. We need to wait for the more settings of the Android Developer Preview 2.

    10. Redesigned Storage Settings

    Android O DP2 has totally redesigned the storage settings. Now you can see the progress bar which shows how much space is left on your device. The advance settings are been removed and smart storage settings are available at the settings home page.

    Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom Launches in India

    Asus announced its first dual-camera smartphone, the Zenfone 3 Zoom way back at CES in January. The Taiwanese company revealed details of the smartphone but had not announced the pricing or the availability of the smartphone.

    It is finally available in the US market from major retailers as well as Asus’ own website. The handset has been priced at $329 (Rs 22,000 approx) which sounds like a fair price point.

    The Zenfone 3 Zone is a 5.5 inch smartphone with dual 12 MP cameras. One of the cameras has a 25 mm while the other has a 59 mm lens. Users can instantly switch from one camera to the other. The cameras offer a 2.3x optical zoom, and are good for taking portraits as well as capturing objects in a distance.
    There is a TriTech+ autofocus system that chooses between three autofocus technologies, namely the Dual Pixel PDAF, subject tracking autofocus and laser focus. Even when photographing subjects in motion, the system chooses the most appropriate autofocus, and achieves a clear image within 0.03 seconds. The ZenFone 3 Zoom is the first Asus smartphone with the SuperPixel technology for capturing clear images in low light conditions. The sensor light sensitivity is said to be boosted by up to four times, and the phone automatically and intelligently adjusts the ISO levels. For low light photography, noise reduction post production is done automatically by the smartphone. Asus claims the SuperPixel technology allows for 2 times the light sensitivity of the Apple iPhone 7, and ten times the light sensitivity of conventional smartphones.
    The device runs on a 64-bit 2.0 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, with 3 GB of memory and an Adreno 506 GPU. The 5.5 inch display comes with a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, has a brightness rating of 500 nits and is protected by the latest Gorilla Glass 5. Asus also claims that it is the world’s slimmest smartphone with a high capacity 5,000 mAh battery. Other features include Android 7.0 Nougat, RAW image and 4K video recording support, as well as a fingerprint scanner at the back.

    India Needs More Technological Developments


      Technology Updates Required in India

      Launching a digital database for the Supreme Court here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the country needs technology to make the judiciary more effective and going paperless is also a must to save the environment. Calling digitisation a change that everyone needs to adapt to, Modi said that technology can change the whole “economic environment”.

      Modi also urged the legal fraternity to take initiative and provide legal help to the poor. “To make the judiciary more effective, use of forensic science and technology is very important… The world is moving very fast and we have to cope up to avoid being left behind,” Modi said while launching the Integrated Case Management Information System (ICMIS) here.

      ICMIS, a hybrid database that will aid the apex court go paperless, helps with digital filing of cases called e-filing, and enable litigants to easily access the information online. The Prime Minister uploaded the ICMIS on the Supreme Court’s website at a function in Vigyan Bhawan in the presence of Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

      “When we use an A4 size paper, we don’t realise that ten litres of water is used to make one such paper sheet… If we go paperless, we can save a lot of forests, power and the environment… such a paperless system has a lot of power,” Modi said.


      “On this occasion, I request the advocates to step forward and take an initiative to provide legal help to the poor and needy people of the nation,” Modi said, making a reference to ‘Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Yojana’, a scheme for free medical checkups to pregnant women on the ninth of every month. He said that many private practitioners have also come forward to help. Modi, reiterating some of India’s technological milestones, added that the country is lagging in applicable science.

      “Today India is lauded by the world for its fine space technology. We are the first to reach Mars in the first attempt at a cost cheaper than many Hollywood films… yet unfortunately we lag behind in applicable science,” Modi said. “The way technology is driving us, if we won’t cope up then we will have to face hardships,” he said.

      Reiterating his government’s initiative of going cashless, Modi added that while e-governance is easy, effective, economic and an environment friendly way of governance, the challenge is how to incorporate it. “Technology can change the whole economical environment. My experience is that people have started to realise the value of digitisation,” Modi said.

      Artificial Intelligence (AI) is something which every tech company is looking forward for, especially an assistant inside smartphones. Started with Apple's Siri, followed by Microsoft's Cortana and newly available Google's Assistant, we literally have an AI assistant stalking us on nearly every platform — right from location to behavior of app usage, frequently contacted people, WiFi, Bluetooth routine and more.

      Following the same legacy of never ending AI assistant race, Panasonic India forayed into the world of AI with its in-house developed virtual assistance called ‘Arbo’. According to Panasonic, Arbo is derived from Esperanto, which means - a framework that supports climbing plants.
      Along with the announcement of Arbo, Panasonic unveiled two new smartphones equipped with Arbo named Eluga Ray Max and Eluga Ray X. Both the smartphones will be available in three different color options including Rose Gold, Space Grey, and Gold. The smartphones will be exclusively available on Flipkart starting April 17th.
      The Panasonic Eluga Ray Max comes in two different storage options – the 32GB version priced at Rs. 11,499 and the 64GB version priced at Rs. 12,499. On the other hand, the Eluga Ray X will be available for Rs. 8,999.


      Arbo

      Panasonic has developed Arbo with easy (single-hand) and quick (up to 3 actions) operation as the concept. Arbo will analyze user's behavior based on time and location using AI. Based on the time or location, Arbo will automatically display and make suggestions on screen such as
      • Frequently contacted phone numbers and SNS users
      • Applications
      • Wi-Fi, volume, etc. settings
      • Connection with IoT devices (Bluetooth devices, etc.)
      Arbo also takes care of all the daily tasks and activities like calls and messages that need to be framed and sent out on a regular basis. It also keeps a detailed list of all the applications functioning on the smartphone, gathers detailed information on their habits and informs them about it accordingly.

      In addition, it features a user interface that displays icons in a circular, radial fashion, enabling single-handed, intuitive operation. Panasonic notes that it will continue to update Arbo, to expand the scope of automatic displays and suggestions, to further evolve the user interface, and to enhance usability.

      Talking of hands-on experience, Arbo inside Eluga Ray Max was not polished and felt unfinished. It was quite difficult to understand how to use and setup Arbo initially. We hope Panasonic improve the UI of Arbo and make it more consumer friendly.

        Panasonic Eluga Ray Max has a metal uni-body design. The device felt sturdy during our hands-on at the event and was quite comfortable too. On the front, you will find an earpiece, front-facing camera and a LED flash above the display with a fingerprint scanner (embedded inside the home button) below it.

        Primary camera, LED flash, antenna bands, secondary microphone, and Panasonic and Eluga branding is what you will find on the back of the device. Volume rockers and power/lock button are placed on the left side with 3.5mm headphone jack on the top. Speakers and primary microphone along with microUSB charging port are placed at the bottom.

        The UI of Eluga Ray Max was running smooth with no lag whatsoever. The biggest downside of the device is that it still runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Considering the specifications and the pricing, Panasonic's Ray Max will surely give tough competition to other smartphones available in the market at similar price bracket.

          Talking of Panasonic Eluga Ray X, the smartphone looks exactly similar to the Eluga Ray Max. Like the Ray Max, on the front, there's an earpiece, Selfie-flash and front-facing camera on the top of the display with fingerprint scanner below the same, embedded inside the capacitive home button.

          The placement of speaker has been moved from bottom to the back of the device. On the bottom, we have microUSB port with a primary microphone with 3.5mm headphone jack on the top. Volume rockers and power/lock button (oval shaped) are still placed on the left side of the device.

          Panasonic Eluga Ray X also comes with Panasonic's latest Arbo AI assistant in-built. The smartphone is priced competitively. The UI was smooth and the build of Ray X was at par, considering the price tag. Similar to the Eluga Ray Max, the Ray X also comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.

          Both, the Panasonic Eluga Ray Max and Ray X will be available from Flipkart starting April 17th.

          MWC 2017: How the Snapdragon 835’s Absence Stole the Show


          Qualcomm has made a name for itself in the smartphone industry: being the most reputable Android SoC provider for years now, Qualcomm has a sort of hold on the mobile device market few outside of Apple can lay claim to.
          It is no wonder either. Qualcomm chips are powering mobile devices at almost every price range, wearables of all sorts and tablets just to name a few — and they are usually stable, fast, efficient chips, and certainly some of the few that work just as well on CDMA networks as GSM, thanks in large part to their patent portfolio. Qualcomm also has a fairly predictable release cycle; Q1 brings the newest series of chip while Q3/Q4 usually sees the unveiling of a slightly-beefed-up model. This year though, new Qualcomm processors were noticeably absent from the very MWC week where we are usually introduced to a number of flagships flaunting the new silicon, and as a whole it left MWC feeling vaguely empty. Sure, we got to see the new Huawei P10 and LG G6, but the only Snapdragon 835 device on display was the 2017 Sony Xperia phone,which by their own admission is not shipping for months. Rumors have the Samsung Galaxy S8, the first 835 device to ship, going through delays pushing its release back to almost May, well later than the February/March launches we have been accustomed to. 

          Of course, not everyone can afford a top tier flagship device, so does it even matter that we aren’t seeing a flagship Qualcomm device until mid-Q2? Based on Android version market share it is obvious that much of the market does not even run phones powered by the latest and greatest chipset. However, the innovation and technological advancements made possible by these higher-cost chips trickles down through the product line to benefit lower cost mid-range and bargain bin processors — traditionally in the long term, but recently, those changes have been making it “downstream” really fast. Take for instance the Snapdragon 625 processor. The 625 is by all intents and purposes a solid mid-range processor. However, we are seeing this year old processor launching in the brand new flagship from Blackberry and from all hands-on accounts, it runs extremely well. The 625 is also renowned for powering the much admired Moto Z Play providing acceptable performance while delivering exceptional battery life. 

          A few years ago, a mid-range processor would simply not have been able to power a premium smartphone experience. Nowadays, Qualcomm’s mid-rangers like the 625 and 626 offer respectable performance and battery life for cheap, in part because they are built differently than the Kyro chipsets and feature ARM cores in a big.LITTLE setup. They also come built in the newer and smaller process sizes, featuring good core setups, and they now offer support for dual cameras, 4K recording, QuickCharge, excellent modems for fast internet speeds, and more.

          Blackberry isn’t the only OEM shipping flagship devices with older processors, as LG’s latest flagship and HTC’s U Ultra each run the Snapdragon 821, the same processor that launched with the now 7 month old Google Pixel and later in the  OnePlus 3T but also a derivative of the Snapdragon 820 that these companies launched on multiple other phones last year. While spec hungry users may immediately discredit the choice of older processors in these phones, the fact is that they still deliver top tier performance and should not be discredited simply due to it not sporting the greater number, core count or benchmark score, especially when this new generation’s year-on-year gains are some of the lowest. In fact it should be noted that in many respects the software matters more than the hardware alone when dealing with still fairly new chips. 
          If the early Geekbench 4 numbers from the Galaxy S8 are valid or legitimate (a rather big if, we reckon) , they show it edging out the OnePlus 3T by single digits in single-core performance, within a similar margin featured by the lowest and highest of Snapdragon 820/821 scores Multi-Core shows a different side of the coin due to fact that the 835 is an octa-core compared to the quad-core 821. This does align with Qualcomm’s statements regarding the performance increase of the 835, which at a mere 25% for CPU performance, is one of the lowest year-on-year gains we’ve seen from the company.

          However, there are some trade-offs. While the Snapdragon 821 supports BT4.1 the new 835 supports the newest standard for Bluetooth 5.0. Likewise the 835 runs the newest LTE modems capable of running faster on the networks running the newest technology, and the 10nm process size eanbles the chip to run more efficiently while delivering greater performance, even if it is just a little compared to previous years. There are many improvements surrounding the chipset’s features and peripherals – QuickCharge, DSP, ISP, VR and machine-learning optimizations, and so on — but even today, most of these (excluding Quick Charge) aren’t features consumers actively evaluate when considering a new purchase  

          Tiny chip, small delay, big consequences

          Qualcomm faces a larger problem as well. It comes as little surprise to us who have been following these devices for years that Qualcomm seems to be slowing down in terms of raw performance. Lately, mainstream Qualcomm processors have been falling behind competitors like Samsung’s Exynos and Huawei’s Kirin processors on the CPU side, not only because of the tremendous gains of newer ARM cores but also given Samsung began employing its custom M1 architecture. It’s also likely that the Mali-G71 MP-20 coming with the next Exynos chipset will finally dethrone the Adreno line, if reported performance increase percentages hold up. While Qualcomm holds an advantage in terms of the total SoC package with innovations in AR & VR, camera ISP, multi-microphone processing and more, its competitors are outperforming it in other, more forward-facing areas — at least for the benchmark geeks and other value-minded or strictly numbers-based consumers. Qualcomm also has to deal with its anti-competitive lawsuit placed upon it from Apple which could stand to completely undermine its (sometimes anti-competitive) efforts to dominate markets where CDMA is prevalent due to their experience and expansive patents. Finally, while Qualcomm offers an excellent mainstream product to sell to OEMs en masse, some large names in the industry are increasingly opting for trying their luck at developing at least some custom chipsets, including Xiaomi and very likely even Google in the near future.
          Despite Qualcomm’s latest and greatest offerings being absent from the show, they still cast their shadow over the week with the Samsung’s Galaxy S8 event announcement drawing more attention than LG’s hardware launch and even Blackberry’s 625 powered KEYOne, which actually received multiple awards during the week. However, Huawei strangely drew a lot of attention to its newest P10 device that has bloggers from all over the world tripping over themselves for coverage – even primarily US-based writers, a market the P10 will not officially come to (though bloggers did get copious amounts of review units). Samsung even used the event week to announce its newest series 9 chip, a processor we may see in certain Galaxy S8 models and almost certainly Note 8 models. Apple, Samsung, Huawei and now Xiaomi are all producing their own silicon and are all some of the largest OEM’s in the world. Qualcomm is a major player in the market oftentimes leading the mainstream charge towards new innovations and technologies. What they do, the rest of the market typically follows; but if this MWC shows us anything it’s that even if they aren’t the star of the show, the show will go on and competition is good for everyone.

          Nvidia at the Game Developers Conference this week announced a new frame capture analysis tool for virtual reality. Dubbed FCAT VR, the utility is designed to help VR developers, reviewers and enthusiasts analyze the quality and performance of a virtual reality experience.
          Traditional benchmark utilities aren’t all that practical when it comes to virtual reality. Zvi Greenstein, general manager of Nvidia’s GeForce team who also leads business development for VR at the company, notes in a recent blog post that traditional measurement tools like FRAPS only measure what’s happening on the desktop monitor instead of what’s happening on the VR headset.
          In other words, they focus squarely on frame rate and don’t take other important metrics into account like latency, stutter and hitching – all of which can have a big impact on the virtual reality experience. If stutter and latency fall below a certain threshold, for example, they can cause motion sickness – not fun.
          FCAT VR, which supports the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, is said to provide a comprehensive performance measurement for frame time and stutter on the headset without requiring special external capture equipment.
          The tool captures four key performance metrics:
          • Frame Time — Since FCAT VR provides detailed timing, it’s possible to measure the time it takes to render each frame. The lower the frame time, the more likely it is that the app will maintain a frame rate of 90 frames per second needed for a quality VR experience. Measurement of frame time also allows an understanding of the PC’s performance headroom above the 90 fps VSync cap employed by VR headsets.
          • Dropped Frames — Whenever the frame rendered by the VR game arrives too late for the headset to display, a frame drop occurs. It causes the game to stutter and increases the perceived latency which can result in discomfort.
          • Warp Misses — A warp miss occurs whenever the runtime fails to produce a new frame (or a re-projected frame) in the current refresh interval. The user experiences this miss as a significant stutter.
          • Synthesized Frames — Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) is a process that applies animation detection from previously rendered frames to synthesize a new, predicted frame. If FCAT VR detects a lot of ASW frames, we know a system is struggling to keep up with the demands of the game. A synthesized frame is better than a dropped frame, but isn’t as good as a rendered frame.
          Nvidia’s new utility should be available to download by mid-March.
